North Carolina Suspect held in Pitt County under $1 million bond

GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA-- A 40-year-old La Grange man remains in jail under a $1 million bond following a two-month investigation by sheriff's departments in Pitt and Beaufort counties.

Pedro Vega Torres, of 5773 Rockford Church Road, faces two counts of trafficking cocaine, a felony. He was convicted of the same offense in May 2000.

Narcotics agents stopped Torres near the intersection of Allen Road and Dickinson Avenue, about a mile west of Greenville, North Carolina on Wednesday.

Torres was not armed. Detectives said they found four ounces of cocaine in a pocket behind the passenger seat of Torres' 1993 Ford Explorer.

Investigators described Torres as a mid-level dealer who buys cocaine from suppliers and sells it to street-level dealers.

Torres is said to be part of a drug operation that is spread throughout eastern North Carolina.
